2002

2002!
Can you believe its still you
Looking at the calendar
In 2002?

2003
Do you think that we
Will still be the same
In 2003?
2004
For those who want more
Will we even the score
In 2004?

Life goes by fast.
It doesn’t take a poet
Or a philosopher
To realize that.

Parents grow old.
They die.
Children grow up.
They fly.

And in the mirror
You become who
You looked up to
When you were new.

2005
If we’re still alive
Is just a short trip
When once we arrive.

And oh so, so, fast
It too is the past
And we are but bronzed
Frozen and cast.

A Has Been

And then
When
I looked within
I realized
That I
Am a
Has been.

That my usefulness
Has passed
That age has snagged me
And my ass
Has dropped
Passed gas
And stored fat.

The young ones
Tight skinned
Toned
Buff
Unblemished
Knowing all
And all knowing
Laugh.
Disinterested
In what they
May
Shall
Will
Become
When they droop.

And we forget
Care not
Or be dead.

Yes
We can fools ourselves with our wisdom.
We can berate
Youth
And wink
Knowing
What is around this corner
And that.

Yes
We can through wrinkled eyes
Grayed with knowledge
Dimmed with disappointment
Shaded with
Jaded with
Ladened with
Ultimacy
Feign surprise
Indignation
Disgust

Yes
We can

Jealously
Accepting
Fate

We can
Celebrate
Our fat asses.
